Hybrid Perpetuals

The botanical collections of the early 1800’s, like the Malmaison rosette, allowed hybridizers and nurseries to simply access an assortment of very large roses. Crosses between Portland, Noisette, Tea led to the creation of Perennial Hybrids, a group of highly varied roses in shades, flower shapes, and portraits. They had an extraordinary success in the Victorian and Edwardian times (the second half of the nineteenth century). Almost all fragrant ones maintain the harmony of the Ancient Roses with the revelation. They form generally vigorous shrubs, erect like Paul Neyron or enlarged like Ferdinand Pichard.
